Laura's Profile Image

Hello!

I'm Laura, a software engineer, systems builder and co-founder of Rebellion Systems.

3 years and 4 months ago, I found myself at a major crossroads. After closing my childcare business of 15 years, I wasn't sure what to do next. But I knew I wanted to grow my skills in the online world - because I truly believe everyone has a business in them.

I started with a digital marketing course, began freelance video editing, and explored ways to build an online business. These experiences helped me understand the potential of the digital world and sparked my curiosity to learn more. Ultimately, this journey led me to coding - I wanted to build a website myself rather than relying on others or pre-made solutions.

Since then, and now with 754 days coding experience under my belt, that journey has taken me far beyond learning the basics. What started as a small idea to showcase affiliate links grew into a real passion for building websites, systems and tools that help people and businesses work better.

I began learning Python and Django so I could build things properly myself rather than relying entirely on off-the-shelf tools. That journey gradually evolved from building websites and small projects into developing full operational systems, automation tools and business platforms used in real-world environments.

What started as experimentation quickly became an obsession with understanding how systems work.

Today, much of my work focuses on Django, PostgreSQL and operational software, designing and building systems from the ground up, then deploying, maintaining and evolving them over time.

I work across the full stack, including:

  • backend engineering
  • frontend implementation
  • database architecture
  • integrations and APIs
  • cloud deployment and infrastructure
  • automation and workflow systems
  • reporting, auditability and operational tooling

I'm particularly interested in building software that helps organisations operate more effectively; systems that are reliable, maintainable and designed around real business processes rather than unnecessary complexity.

Alongside client work, I still enjoy documenting the journey of learning, building and solving problems. Technology moves quickly, and I believe some of the best opportunities come from staying curious and continuing to build.

LJ Talks started as a record of that journey. It still is! Just at a very different stage now.

I still believe technology is at its best when it helps people grow, solve problems, and create new opportunities. That belief is still a big part of why I build.

Thanks for visiting.
